*she had tried not to eavesdrop - really. but she couldn't help but hear what the mare said to her father. they weren't close? how could that be? father always said he knew not how to love, but in her heart she knew that that was a lie. her father knew quite well how to love, he just didn't want to. not yet, anyways. whatever his past had been, it hadn't dealt kindly with love. but her father had a good heart - no matter what he told her - and he would learn soon enough what love really meant*
*even now, he loved. he said "cared," but isn't that the same thing, really? if he was willing to give up his own happiness for someone he "cared" about... well, if that isn't love what is?*
*she needn't tell this to her father, though. he was smart. she knew he would figure it all out soon enough. and if he didn't... well, she wasn't going to go anywhere, really. not for awhile, anyways...*
*she settled down to graze and her thoughts drifted to hellraiser. she didn't know his name, but that was who she was thinking about. the young stallion seemed to understand her uneasiness, and respected it. she appreciated that. he seemed harmless, yet who was she to judge harmless from dangerous? she knew far, far better than to trust again. nameless had left her empty, waiting. she wouldn't let herself be hurt that way again*
never, *she swore* never...
