Snipes, who competed against 15 other local winners, tap-danced her way to victory as Miss Tennessee's Outstanding Teen. "I am just so thrilled and so excited," she said. "I could not be more happy. I worked very hard for this." Patrick Snipes, Madison's father, said he was just as excited. He was wearing a small circular button decorated with his daughter's face. "I can't talk. I'm too excited," he said. Patrick Snipes sat with a crowd of his daughter's supporters but mostly walked the hallways and auditorium aisles. "She put in the work," he said. "She put in the hours, and we're so proud of her." The crowd full of hand-held signs and momentary pauses of quiet anticipation cheered in a low roar when Snipes finished her tap-dance solo to the song "Dance in Full." Second runner-up Haley Butler and first runner-up Maddie Lane also gained loud cheers from the crowd during the talent portion of the competition. Jordan, who was competing as Miss Parson Peavine's Teen Princess, defeated 10 teens in the Teen Princess competition. "I'm still in shock," she said. "But it's absolutely amazing for all the hard work to pay off." Macy Moyer, 14, and Alexandra Bingham, 15, took home the first and second runner-up distinctions in the Teen Princess competition. In the Outstanding Teen competition, Lane sang a solo from the animated film "Anastasia" in full character, and the crowd again roared. Parent Tina Berry sat nervously as the talent portion ended and evening wear began. She crossed her hands in front of her chest and fanned herself slightly. "That's my daughter," she said. Autumn Berry, 15, stood on stage in a light-blue evening gown, waiting her turn to gracefully walk in front of the judges. She came after girls covered in rows of blush pink ruffles, sporadically placed sequin and glitter appliqués and bold red, fuchsia and peach dresses. "It is one of the most exciting, hard-working experiences that we've ever gone through," said Tammy Brasfield, mother of Taylor Brasfield, 15. Taylor competed in the Teen Princess competition. Guess the person who said that Jocelyn Jordan would never win no matter who she friended or liked on FB because she "just isn't pretty enough" wasn't asked to judge this year. How's that crow tasting right about now? (NT) | shows what you know | 16:55:30 03/20/11 Sun |
