Date Posted: 07:20:53 08/11/11 Thu In reply to: percocet kingpin 's message, "percocet , endocet , roxicet" on 07:18:50 08/11/11 Thu here is 1 alcohol/food/lifestyle interaction with Percocet (acetaminophen/oxycodone): Percocet and Alcohol (Ethanol) Major Drug Interaction GENERALLY AVOID: Chronic, excessive consumption of alcohol may increase the risk of acetaminophen-induced hepatotoxicity, which has included rare cases of fatal hepatitis and frank hepatic failure requiring liver transplantation. The proposed mechanism is induction of hepatic microsomal enzymes during chronic alcohol use, which may result in accelerated metabolism of acetaminophen and increased production of potentially hepatotoxic metabolites. MANAGEMENT: In general, chronic alcoholics should avoid regular or excessive use of acetaminophen. Alternative analgesic/antipyretic therapy may be appropriate in patients who consume three or more alcoholic drinks per day. However, if acetaminophen is used, these patients should be cautioned not to exceed the recommended dosage (maximum 4 g/day in adults and children 12 years of age or older). Percocet and Alcohol (Ethanol) Moderate Drug Interaction GENERALLY AVOID: The central nervous system-depressant effects of opioid analgesics and ethanol may be additive. The combination of these agents may result in additive CNS-depression and impairment of judgment, thinking, and psychomotor skills. In more severe cases, respiratory depression, hypotension, profound sedation, and coma can occur. Death has been reported in overdosage. MANAGEMENT: The concomitant use of opioid analgesics and ethanol should be avoided. [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
