Subject: Great Season!

Bring on Syracuse!

What a great season. I was at Navy, at UNH and at Yale (until my son's rugby game started), and from that start to get to the middle of December is over the top. Congratulations to the players, coaches, support staff & fans who made this one of the best seasons in Gate history. I'm proud to be part of the team, and can't wait for next year!

Oh yeah, and let's beat Syracuse!

We have a lot to look forward to and a helluva lot to be grateful for! And it's certainly been amusing with this banter about football all year.

Gate'83, see you and your crowd again in the fall, if not before at an alumni event, maybe on campus this spring or at the President's Club reception on 6 May in NYC.

Go 'gate!

Who would have dreamed this when we were 0-3 and down 14-3 to HC near the end of the first half? Our third trip to the quarterfinals in a third-century. While Fordham and Lehigh have several playoff wins, I don't believe they ever won 2 playoff games the same year. The unexpected PL title would have been sweet enough, but 3 playoff games? No one will admit this now, but even in 2003, with a 12-0 season following a 9 win year, a #4 seed and home field for 2 rounds, I got the sense from insiders that all we really wanted was a playoff win (especially against UMass and their obnoxious coach), and that everything else was pure gravy. Beating 2 powerful CAA teams in the playoffs was a huge accomplishment.

Hunt has established himself. The kids like him, he's a great spokesman for Colgate with the media, and he obviously isn't "too nice". Vicky has had great influence and I think changed Colgate's view on fb - we're now bidding for home playoff games, the schedule has been upgraded, and even the way she forcefully but diplomatically handled that faculty letter 2 years ago. What a great OOC slate to start the season next year - Syracuse, Yale, and Richmond. With a young team returning, along with a couple of redshirted defensive studs, there's alot to be optimistic about next year. Schollies are obviously helping, and next year is the first with 4 years of scholarship players. Let's hope this year's success builds student and alum interest and improves recruiting.
