Jacksonville 62, Sam Houston 10 ... big difference between the top of FCS and the rest of the teams. Jacksonville is full of SEC transfers.

Re: did they do a flea flicker when they were up by 28? -- RedRaider1979 (SHU worn-out), 12/20/15 6:04:10pm Sun
2 theories for SHU coming out sluggish yesterday:
1) Team still worn-out from previous week's end of quarter academics; in particular, the kinesiology majors mentally fatigued.
2) Team full of itself after beating Gate handily.
...........bearkitties need some more of those BCS transfers - who dont even sit a year; Missouri has a new coach - maybe they take a few there? or how about Georgia - they have coaching transition too? Miami? Rutgers?

Re: FCS Football - where's the bitch-slapper? -- 'gate80, 12/21/15 9:07:40am Mon
One of the reasons I'm delaying going to the new board is that I don't like that it was a response to that clown from SHSU trying to taunt us about being "bitch-slapped". If a small academic school without a full compliment of schollarships is getting bitch-slapped by being down by 17 at half before losing by 27 to a glorified JuCo of 20,000, I'm not sure how SHSU's loss to Jax St would be described. When the Bearkats take on somebody their own size (actually still less than half their size), they trailed by 31 at half before losing by 52! Certain medical procedures come to me, much more degrading than being slapped.
Yes the cream of FCS has usually been a cut above the rest of the division. That has been true of North Dakota State recently (and I think Jax St this year), Appy St a decade ago, and at various times Georgia Southern, Youngstown St, Montana, Marshall, and yes Delaware in 2003. By the Sagarin ratings NDSU and Jax St rate higher than the majority of I-A teams! Although I'd like us to try, I doubt Colgate could ever really compete at this level. It makes what we did in 2003 even more magical in retrospect. Some very good fb programs (UNH for example) have never made the finals. Making the quarters like we did this year may be the most we can realistically achieve, if there are going to be a half dozen FCS programs like NDSU and Jax St that are essentially playing at a I-A level.

To be clear, the new board was the result of a generous offer from a Sam Houston fan to fund a new forum for us. I turned him down because I could not justify having him spend time/money on a new forum. It did get me to look into free forums again, which resulted in the new one being created.

Re: FCS Football -- the last indian ('gate80), 12/21/15 9:50:08am Mon
I loved your message. Right on. Perhaps there should be a rule that forces some of these programs to go up to the BCS, that they resemble. I am not sure what the rule would be, but it seems like a heavyweight being allow to fight middleweights so they can excel.

And SHS almost beat Auburn. That should tell you something about what classification the SHSs and NDSUs, etc. programs should be in.

No problem with all of the above... including '63's rationale about moving to the new board. The good thing about a liberal arts education is we're open to good ideas regardless of their origin. Suck it up & move on over!
