Subject: Women's Soccer losing their Sagger ?

A substantial portion of the starters from 2014's WSOC regular season PL
championship returned for the 2015. But, they've looked a lot different and their performance to date raises a lot of questions. The rigor of their O.O.C. slate was unprecedented. They didn't come out of it with any upsets. The presumption was that it was toughening them up for PL play. Absent from the lineup so far this year was last year's PL Goalkeeper of the year Breanna Mason. It's not clear if she's injured ? Her replacement Erin Cummings has done an adequate job. But, at 6' and a large frame, she doesn't have the agility and mobility of Breanna.

The rematch of last years Pl Championship game against Boston in the 2015 regular season turned out to be a dud. A 0-2 Sept 30th loss under the lights at Beyer-Small and broadcast on Time Warner underscored the slippage in the lady WSOC Raiders this season. While theta has suffered its share of injuries, it has the depth to compensate. The large Senior class that has provided multiple starters for several years running will be graduating this year. Add to that, there don't seem to be any stars emerging from this year's Freshman class, as there normally is.

One other change from last season is the absence of ling time Associate Coach. After a dozen years at Gate, he accepted similar job at Ohio State.
That may be another factor explaining this year's on field performance.
Is this just a blip in Kathy Brawn's dynasty at Gate ? Or is it a significant turning point in one of the strongest athletic programs in Gate history ?
Stay tuned and remember where you heard it first !

Kathy Brawn lost to her former star player Kelly Kruss, now the head coach of Bucknell's WSOC team. As heartbreaking as that may be for Kathy and the team, there's a larger issue here. This personnel on this team are not that different from last year's. Yet, their lackluster performance against strong o.o.c. competition has shifted to a lackluster performance against PL opponents that they normally dismiss hadily !
What's up ?

From the Colgate website:

"Colgate dropped the contest 2-1; making it the first time since 2010 the Raiders fell to the Bison."

This is about losing a game...That's what can happen in soccer and in this case it's today and otherwise 5 years ago. I can live with that without losing sleep.

Go 'gate!

Another thing to keep in mind is that winning is getting tougher. Prior to football scholarships, Colgate had the most scholarships of any PL team and spent the most money, by far, of any PL team. Some teams, including Bucknell, had zero scholarships for many years. Now everyone has a number of them - plus a very strong team (Boston U) has joined the league. Winning will be tougher going forward.
