good result on a very bad judgement call!
punt & they get the ball deep in their own territory 1 stop and Gate wins, if Melville doesn't get that yard it's a likely loss....very questionable call !!! but again...good results

Totally disagree. Get the yard and you win the game. Punt and you could lose the game. The Hoyas had the momentum and moved down the field to score in a minute and a half. Don't give them another chance with plenty of time left!

I like the 4th down call. Colgate’s D was having trouble at that point. I think the aggressiveness—even if they hadn’t gotten it, it sets a better tone than a punt. Statistically, I would imagine it absolutely makes sense.

Also, I could certainly be wrong, but I think this was the plan the entire game. Wilkins is out. Gate goes to him on the read option 95% of the time (at least) on 4th and 1. Gate runs the empty backfield as the first play of the game (a new look the D won’t forget—especially since it is the first play of the game). Colgate makes sure to throw the ball on that play—Melville hasn’t thrown a pass like that all year—running towards someone and zipping the ball in there to a relatively covered receiver. Colgate makes sure to show that play with a pass so that the defense has to respect it when they run it again on 4th and short. This time, the QB has no intention of throwing but all he has to do is pick a hole with basically man-on-man blocking. Could be wrong, but it feels like the plan (and a smart one) on ‘gate’s part.

calls like that will find some fans liking it and others not. I am very happy it worked out for Gate.
I wonder if Hunt makes that same call if the D wasn't so bad at holding 4th quarter leads?

My guess is the players wanted to go for it on 4th and 1 and get the win. This is their game and they would share the results.

We were only 4-13 on 3rd down conversions. That is terrible, it kills momentum, and any improvement there could turn this Colgate team around. Melville had some brilliant plays but also made some terrible, soft, lateral passes while others he threw were well out of bounds. If he decides to run, he must aim for the 1st down marker and not come up a yard or two short as often as he does.

It was an exciting game; not sure where this Georgetown team came from but glad we're now 12-1 against them. Their wins out of conference are lackluster. We needed this one so congrats to all for the gritty win on the road!

Afriyie is damn impressive...the NFL could be a real possibility for him. Hope he gives Fordham fits!
