Subject: FWIW, 10/5 Massey Ratings and Basset Predictions, Etc.

We have to learn to live with the ambiguity of living with the record from our tough o.o.c. competition relative to our P.L. brethren. There is a potential progression of our competitiveness. But, it's contingent on our coaches and players coming away better equipped from the early challenges. We'll see this week !

[> [> Emerging Difficulty Assessing Strength of PL fb teams -- Naked Eye FB Quant, 10/ 4/15 8:37:15pm Sun

1. One Model: Fordham has had the jump on transitioning to tougher FCS opponents and annual FBS games while transitioning to schoolies..
2. In another model, Gate has engaged in an aggressive scheduling strategy 3. In the meantime, Lehigh, Lafayette and to a lesser extent, Bucknell is tip-toeing into a more aggressive strategy year-by-year.
3. Until the recent hire of the new AD at HC in Feb 2014, it wasn't clear whether HC would have the stole equivalencies to schedule FBS games and the will to schedule up in the FCS. They've scheduled aggressively, but not getting to the Fordham and Gate model til the 2017 season.
4. And Georgetqwn is trying to find suitable non-scholly teams and years to be the 9th Ivy inn scheduling.

When you get into the thick of PL competition, the value of scheduling up can be demonstrated by what the players have picked up and how the coaches have guided them through their early challenges.

No doubt, each of these models are consistent with traditions and athletic aspirations associated with the brands of each school. It can get pretty old to get the crap beat out of you if the transition to this scheduling isn't accompanied by knowledgeable coaching, good strategic branding and buy-in from the recruits to enter into these experiments.

It makes accurately predicting Gate's performance against Princeton and Fordham as difficult as gauging how difficult Lehigh, Laffy and Bucknell will be. Buckie's weak schedule, excepting Army, may make them the easiest opponent of the 3 although they have the best record at this date.

[> [> [> How well Gate matches up with Princeton is key to the game -- Andy Kerr, 10/ 5/15 11:46:20am Mon

Stats provide some valuable insight.
From there, how the teams match up, scheme-to-scheme, position-to-position, will rule the day,
Princeton employs a lot of offensive razzle-dazzle, which can be an 'x' factor in determining the game's outcome.

I can make this easy for you guys. Princeton won't be easy but, Colgate should be able to beat them unless they do something dumb like too many penalties, fumbles. The ground game will win it. Colgate has a stronger and better team than Gtown, Lafayette, Lehigh and Bucknell. 'gate will beat them. That leaves Fordham and that game will be a toss up but, Colgate has the home field.

[> [> Princeton's 2015 opponents are a collective W3-L10 !! -- Andy Kerr, 10/ 6/15 9:47:33am Tue

The margins of victory over hapless Lehigh and Lafayette create the illusion of a juggernaut. The apprehension preceding the Princeton game has an eery resemblance to the prelude to the Holy Cross game. The way a team looks against inferior competition can be very deceptive. This will be as much of a test for Princeton to maintain its swagger as it will be for 'Gate.
