Subject: Colgate v. Princeton

All time series is at 26-26-1. Princeton is off to a good start with impressive wins against Lehigh and Lafayette and then a 5 point victory over Columbia. Colgate continues to get better. Gotta like the defense's stop of Cornell's last series of downs last week. I'll pick Colgate by 10.

Looks like Princeton is picking up Georgetown and Davidson as future opponents along with Lafayette and Lehigh.

gee Princeton, really stretching your program by playing G'town and Davidson...perhaps they can get Valparaiso in the mix as well...

The defense has shown a propensity to disappear in the 4th Q. the late stop was the result of 4 missed passes preceded by the D getting lit up by Cornells passing game turning a potential rout into a near loss. Anything less than 4 FULL quarters against the tigers will hand another loss on Gate

Princeton known for their trickery; 'Gate needs to have their heads on swivels to keep track of everything they pull out of their bag of tricks, especially before the home crowd. I don't have a lot of hope for the Raiders in this one. Let's hope the win over Cornell puts them in a position to get the upset.

As for the schedule; hate to see us not playing the Tigers in the future, a traditional rival and good recruiting ground in NJ for our roster each year.

Agreed. In some way the game may depend as much on the team captains as the coaches, especially on D where the issues are how many minutes does the team play, and how strong a commitment is there to the fundamentals of tackling. On the offensive side coaches have a big opportunity to exploit Gate's receivers. Quazza, Greenawalt and Madaluna present issues of size, ability to snare passes and open field running. Should produce a lot of yards and open up the running game even more. Even more so if the OC would utilize Wingenroth to his potential. As a tandem all four would be a DC's nightmare.

Good things happen when Melville calls his own number. Great to see him keep the ball early and often against Cornell. O feels very dynamic when he keeps it or throws the ball down the field. The 20-30 yard pass is a real sweet spot for this O. If the other team's D is loading up the box, Quazza is always open because of his height and Greenawalt is always open on the back shoulder. Maddaluna is incredibly dynamic--kid getting the ball in space is a big problem for a D. Agreed on Wingenroth. He gets the least amount of attention from Colgate's O, which means he probably also gets the least amount of attention from the D.

Also, Georgetown athletics received a $50 million donation and will finally get a new stadium.

If the "good" Colgate O & D show up for 4 quarters and play like they did for three quarters against Cornell, and two quarters against Holy Cross and Yale, the Raiders should prevail. Princeton has not been tested by a 4 quarter team like the "good" Colgate.

On their web site I see that Princeton is playing Gtown in 2016 but can only find San Diego for 2017 and no Davidson. Davidson was 1-11 last year and is 0-4 this season, dear God.

http://www.goprincetontigers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=10600&ATCLID=301038

I wonder if the Smith College professor who criticized Colgate's new athletic facility and is not an advocate for spending on new athletic facilities with little or no return has any opinion on Gtown's donation ;-)

As for the Princeton game, we have difficulty defending the pass, especially toward the sidelines. Control the clock and even a FG in the red zone instead of a TD would be helpful rather than leaving missed points on the field. Our penalties have subsided a bit and that is growth. Also don't think P'ton's competition thus far has been impressive. The Raiders are a better test.

Where's the kicking game. I was expecting Bowman to be playing a bigger part in the offense. Some say he has become distracted - a girl friend. His performance last year was somewhat of a comfort. Hope he and the O line gets back on track for the kick game.

Yeah, right.

Blame the girfriend for the kicking game! That should do it.

Go 'gate!

Two of the three last missed kicks were blocked on the D side of the line. Seems like a fundamental to be avoided in the first place by coaching technique and prevented with instruction in the future.

Could be a big win today for Gate. May need several blitz packages. With a QB rating of 139.7 Princeton can't be allowed to call their own shots. Gate O coming into its own and its receivers could have a big day and in the process open opportunities for Holland on whom Princeton will key.

More 4th down attempts b/c we can't kick; yet another blocked field goal and zero points in the red zone - again. I thought these days were over.

And I thought the days of the porous defense were over.

Unlike Princeton(playing without 2 top receivers, 2 top running backs and top DB),Gate has erratic offense, no defense, no kicking game, No four quarters, no second half, no team, game over. Cornell smashed today to put last week in perspective.
