If we are aiming that high, let's also put into the universe the idea that we top the 1932 season, and have everyone remember 2015 as "undefeated, untied, unscored upon and national champions"!

I predict we will be 3 & 0 going into the Holy Cross game.
We had trouble at Air Force because Gavin McCarney hurt his left shoulder/arm at the end of the first quarter and Air Force platooned their OL, using a no huddle, 90% run offense, while we kept our first team defense in the game. At that altitude, we simply got gassed.
Look at the video of the 2014 Navy | Air Force game. Navy pretty much "never" threw the ball. Air Force won the game by controlling Navy's run game.
Coach Hunt believes that our front seven are the best he has seen at Colgate in 20 years. If that is the case, Colgate could give Navy problems at "sea level."
We were a much better team than our record showed last year.
Although we lost all five games with Bret Mooney at QB, they were all close. Bret doesn't have the speed and mobility to execute Colgate's read option offense the way Jake Melville can (and Sage Attwood will probably do in 2017).
Colgate will shock Navy on September 5th.
George Bradlau '71, Larry Young '71, and yours truly, Rick Gould '71 and our spouses we be at the game.
Look for us tearing down the goal post after the game.
Rick

We played five losing games in a row without our starting QB. One game was a 7 point loss. Two were 3 point losses.

and every other team at every level will say the same thing!
NO one ever says "we were worse than our record"!
I'm a fan, would love an undefeated championship season but let's keep it real!

injuries are a part of the game, depth matters! especially at qb!!

No matter the reason, the only measure that matters is the team's record. We all bemoan various circumstances that fans rely on to explain the record. My team had the worst D in FCS.We went 3-8. We lost 3 OLmen, starting RB,starting WR in one game.Numerous other season ending injuries on D and O. Doesn't change our record. We were a bad team on the field. Using injury as a crutch :),assumes that they wont occur again this year. Might ,might not.

With Sue B.'s retirement you've lost a valuable scouting asset come Lafayette week. That just wasn't right. ;)

Of course looking at objective stats even optimistic gate fans would say we'd go 1-2 to start the season. But it speaks volumes about the change over the years in Colgate athletics and its followers that the mere mention of the possibility of an upset brings immediate contempt, on a freaking FAN board!
The last time we played Navy was in 1998. We were only a couple of years out from a 16-game losing streak at the height of the gutting, while Navy was coming off a winning season. We lost 42-35 in a game that went down to the final play. Colgate was up 2 TDs in the 4th, and didn't trail until the final minute. Any of several single plays turning out differently would have given us a win, reminding me a bit of the Delaware game last season. If I get motivated I might review the history of the Navy games I attended. We also took UConn down to the final minute that year. UConn then was every bit as good as UHN now - a top-5 team just a couple of years from I-A
.

Memories are great. True they can posit the possibles. Reality tho,is that games in different eras with different players are not predictive, regardless of similarities in uniforms. Four years is an eternity. Could Gate have a chance vs Navy. Sure. Win,unlikely. Put up a good competitive game,at least for a while, ddfinitely.

Navy Hype Video -- The Future, 08/22/15 1:49:05pm Sat
You are what your record says you are.
Colgate's 1932 team was 9-0.
That they outscored their opponents 264-0. Meaningless.
I would imagine they never even mentioned it. Their record said it all.
Colgate was 5-7 with a very young team, a new defense, new special teams coach and a new head coach. Independent of what other teams are doing, you would expect the team to improve-- just like you would expect the team to have problems if most of the players from last year's team had graduated. The way a team wins or loses games from year-to-year tells you what type of team to expect the following year. That's why teams don't have the same record every year.
Here is Navy's pre-season hype video:
https://vimeo.com/136869911
They talk about "1-0" a lot. Maybe "Beat Colgate" isn't enough to get them fired up.
Most people on this board think Colgate can't pull off the upset. Massey's computer says it will only happen once every 50 games.
I like to think that this is game 50.
Let's Go 'gate!
1-0.

I formally retract my 1-2 prediction. I'm now convinced we're going undefeated!

Gate'83,
Undefeated sounds good. Very good.
I look forward to each pre-game, witnessing some hard-fought wins and upsets on the field, and those victory celebrations downtown. See you at the Inn after our first challenge at home- UNH!
Go 'gate!
