Curling her tail around herself, Noni slips into a half-trance. It took much more concentration for her to move objects than it did to kill things. She is held up partly by ell'qua's apparent confidence in her. At first, a few leaves feebly stir as if a breeze was blowing. It also ruffles the fur of the other Korats sightly. However, unassisted wind doesn't often blow leaves into a small pile ((hence the invention of the rake.)) That is the first sign that something is different. The first actual movemet Noni makes is to extend her left forehand (the one with intactish claws) and touch one of the leaves. It shrivels and blackens, but the flame doesn't catch, and she swears quietly. However, she's not about to fail at this juncture. Maybe I should have given more thought to what I cannot do. Still, she tries again, and this time, the pure golden spark jumps from her claw and ignites the pile of leaves as if she'd been doing this all her life. The flames are the color of her eyes, and burn in them as she makes sure the fire stays alive. Then, something more familiar to her. The warmth is drawn into her paws and flows through her body. Were the others to heighten their senses they would feel it, radiate from her, certainly.
She takes her eyes off the fire and focuses them on her right forepaw. A golden light forms a little halo around it, indistinct at first, but then growing both brighter and more clearly ball-shaped. She bears her pearly teeth in concentration, and it sprouts four legs... a tail, an S-curved neck... Her eyes dart to Zrego for just a second and it seems that he is being sketched at first in the energy.... Then the lines focus in and the likeness is recognizable. Then it blurs and shifts to Jrekehd as she looks at him, and then, with a small pop and a little puff of smoke, it disappears. She shakes her paw, which stings a bit, and then turns to her fellow students again.
"What that fun little display took, mri'faos, was a lot of concentration, a lot of willpower, which most Korats don't use much anymore, and a lot of practice last night. But believe it or not, the hardest thing about energy use, you, Jrekehd, at least, have managed, and that is not bursting into flame. I saw what happened with your paws, Zrego. I did almost the same thing. Anyway, we must learn to use it without harming others first. I may have been a special case, because there was a large, difficult battle right after I started making the cub-steps toward full control. The first step, you see, is paying attention, and finding your energy. This you both have done unconsciously, but can you do it again?" She looks over at Atumi with a silent sort of How am I doing? before she dares continue. She'd hate to mess up their training because of her clumsy, dubious gift with words.
