If water can be used to detect ethanol in fuel, why can't it be used to remove it? For example, put say 1 litre of water in the fuel can. Add fuel as required. Shake well / leave overnight. Decant the fuel from the top, maybe using a water separating funnel (I use all the time anyway) What's left in the fuel can / funnel will be your original water with any ethanol in solution.
