I take the exhaust manifold off every 50 hours and have a good look inside. It's always been very clean, and a regular compression check should highlight any other issues.
Even at the 300 hour crank change there was barely any deposits that couldn't be wiped off with a rag.

A compression check is very quick, 10 mins max, and should highlight any nasties. I use a Gunson's guage which I got at Halfords. I use Shell VSX 2 stroke oil pre-mixed all the time. I normally do the crank bearing check at the same time. Still, wouldn't mind popping a D-Motor in there eh! 93 bhp, Phwwoooor!
