I did that but converted my blue top back to to silver top mode.

I removed the thermosat completely. This gives better coolant circulation and more reliable as the thermostats have been known to fail. Also it avoids the risk of the engine suffering cold seize if the thermostat were to pop open suddenly and dump all the icy water in the radiators into the cylinder block.

I made a simple blanking plate to blank off the bipass hose hole in the top of the head. I fitted a short length of tube with a blanking plug to cover the hole where the bipass hose normally goes back into the water pump cover.

I control the coolant temperature with some in flight adjustable louvres in front of one radiator and blank/unblank the other radiator according to summer/winter.

My original grey top engine ran with the same configuration as devised by the guy I bought my plane from from (less the bipass hose blanking bits)
