Sadly both Shell and Total fuel round here (fed from Kingsbury) now have ethanol. BP Ultimate remains ethanol free.

A local shell garage (low prices and high usage) used to be ethanol free. But it was closed for a week last year for refurbishment and since that time all grades contain ethanol. I speculate that the old pump fittings were not ethanol proof.

I read that the fuel distribution depots add ethanol to the fuel mix at the point where the fuel tankers are loaded, to minimize water absorption etc. If so perhaps there are still some un-refurbished ethanol free garages around.

After the local Shell garage included ethanol I went to a Total garage - reported by fellow pilots as being ethanol free. Two of the pumps were out of service, and the cashier told me they had recently started having lots of problems with the pumps. The fuel I bought contained over 3% ethanol. I speculate they had just started supplying ethanol fuel and that this was causing pump problems (could be wrong but strange coincidence).

I have heard that Murco (don't know which grades) is ethanol free, but I haven't tested it as its a low turnround station.

Has anyone test Murco?

Cheers
Bob
