Well I use a lift, not a jack, and the pads are much larger than the average jack, so it spreads weight out move evenly along the rocker. So you may put a block of wood or something on your jack. I did mash the one jackpoint in the front with the a small floor jack (2inch pad), and it was a pain to get it straightened out again. For the front I put the lift on the frame rails, so no problem there. For any job other than the subframe you probably have the right idea by putting it on the bolts.
