Personally, I love this dark background more than any other:

But, if you don't change the Text Colors,
you'll barely be able to see the words.

When choosing a text color, I prefer using dull variations of bright colors.
(example: Dull Yellow).
Personally, I find bright yellow to be a touch too bright.

Here's a good example using the HTML Color Picker page;
(listed on top as "pick your color"),

http://www.w3schools.com/tags/ref_colorpicker.asp

Normal text color FFFFA3
Link color FFFFE0
Visited link color E6E65C

on the http://www.w3schools.com/tags/ref_colorpicker.asp page,
I scrolled way down to "Selected Color", and typed #FFFF66.
and, all the variations appeared along side.

#000000
#1A1A0A
#333314
#4C4C1F
#666629
#808033
#99993D
#B2B247
#CCCC52
#E6E65C
#FFFF66
#FFFF75
#FFFF85
#FFFF94
#FFFFA3
#FFFFB2
#FFFFC2
#FFFFD1
#FFFFE0
#FFFFF0
#FFFFFF

That's how I derived my choices.

But, if you prefer a brighter yellow,
then go to the Color Picker and choose #FFFF00.

and all the variations will appear aside.

Obviously, you may also decide to use Red or pink.
You can even use Baby blue or light Purple against a dark background.
