So I just found this site, and thought I'd give this a try.
I'm a guitarist, who has always been a huge fan of loverboy. I actually list Paul Dean as one of my influences, for his tone and rhythm style. As a matter of fact, my first (rock) concert was Loverboy opening for Kansas on the "Audio Visions" tour, back in the early 80s.
Anyway, I'm trying to track down information on Paul Deans equipment from back in the early 80s and so far haven't found much other than a couple articles with minimal info. I'm pretty much up to date on his guitar history, but his amp/effects aspects are a bit hard to track down. I know he had an old hiwatt 50 watt amp, that had a preamp modification to increase the gain and give it the crunch, but don't know what the specific mod was, and would like to find it out. While I have alot of guitars and amps already, I've always loved his tone, and wanted to put together a similar system.
So...does anyone have any details on exactly what model of amp he used, what the specific modification was that was done to his amp, and what effects he used? In particular, the swirling sound on various parts of songs (for example the guitars on "when it's over"). Is that a flanger, a phaser, or something else? Would anyone know of the brand/model that he was using?
I would love to correspond directly with him about his gear, so if anyone has contact info that they could either pass along, or forward my note to him, that would be great.
Thanks!
Greg
