John Gordon

Head Wrestling Coach and Athletic Director John Gordon begins his fourth season at the helm of the Saints wrestling program after serving as the head coach at Wyoming Seminary in Kingston, PA where he led the Blue Knights wrestling team from 2002-10.

In the span of his tenure at Seminary, Gordon developed the program into a national powerhouse- finishing second to perennial prep powerhouse Blair Academy three out of the last four years at National Preps Tournament. He also led Wyoming Seminary to four straight Pennsylvania Prep Championships while developing numerous state champions, Prep National Champions, All-Americans, and some of the brightest collegiate recruits in the US. Coach Gordon holds a USA Wrestling Bronze coaching certification and coached the Pennsylvania Cadet and Junior National teams while at Seminary. Gordon serves as the Director of Athletics at St. Christopher's, overseeing all of the Saints' athletic programs, events, and facilities. In the span of three years, Gordon has revamped the Athletics program at St. Christopher's and has improved the branding of the Saints logo- not just for wrestling but for all of its teams. He has developed the Sports Information Department by bringing in Mr. Stephen Lewis in as Director of Electronic Communications & Sports Information which has given all of our Saints Athletes more visability throughout the sports community.

2012-13 Season: Gordon led the Saints to their 12th straight Virginia Prep League title and a strong 2nd place finish at the VISAA State Tournament, finishing 1/2 point behind Liberty Christian Academy.

The team had its best finishes ever at a number of tournaments during the 2012-13 season including the Hopewell Classic (2nd Place), the Richmond Invitational (3rd Place), the Millbrook Mayhem (2nd Place) and the St. Alban's Tournament (3rd Place). Four of his grapplers: William Kelly, Robert Janis, Marshall Hollerith, and Tyler Anthony all won individual VISAA titles. Kelly, Janis, Hollerith, and freshman Joey Prata earned All-American status for Gordon at the 2013 National Prep Tournament.

2010-11 Season: In his first year as Head Coach at St. Christopher's, Coach Gordon spearheaded the Saints continued dominance over private school wrestling in Virginia, guiding the program to their 10th consecutive Virginia Prep League and VISAA State titles. Three of his pupils: Robert Janis, David Wesley, and Quent Alcorn won state titles. Janis, Wesley and Trey Tarr earned All-American status for Coach Gordon helping to lead the Saints to a top 20 finish at Nationals. In addition, Gordon was named Wrestling USA magazine's National Coach of the Year for 2011- the first coach from Virginia to earn the honor. To contact Coach Gordon by email: GordonJ@stcva.org.
