At a movement in his belt-pouch, L�van broke off the contact with his dragon and pulled out the tiny egg that Nazareth had given him.
With a loud crack, it exploded in a shower of fragments, revealing a truly tiny green hatchling who mewed pitifully at the dragonrider. She crept forward as he brought his hand closer to his face, and mewed again, sniffing and touching her nose to his. She was incredibly small, he noticed. Only as long as a small fish!
Gently, he reached one hand into his pocket and offered her tiny scraps of meat, so she didn�t choke on them. At last sated, she curled up in his hand, and allowed him to stroke her body � only as large curled up as a fifty-pence piece. L�van smiled. �Beetle.� He told her. �Your name is Beetle.�
He looked up as Synthis with a smile. �Isn�t she sweet? And you�d make a great dragonrider!�
Shame for Matt that she was going to be a candidate�a dragon had to fly sometime, and if he didn�t Impress, or want to, then someone else�

((ARGH! No names fit her! I have a Jungle Book Theme going on with L�van�s flit�s names. Mang: Bat. Bandar: Monkey. Gidur: Jackal. Nagaina: Cobra. But there isn�t an insect there that has a name! Arg! Oh well. And L�van fancies her! I might have them fight it out�what do you think?))
