Firelizards could carry firestone during a Fall. But they can only carry tiny chunks, being as small as they are. There is also the risk of getting scored or accidently scored. They *do* help fight Thread, or at least, they did. Wild ones {in the south} would probably be with the Queen's Wing or on the fringes of the other wings. Tame firelizards would be with them or not there at all.

Dragons do a lot of flying all over the place and getting into weird positions during a Fall. A flamethrower is heavy and *insert word that could be clumsy here*. There'd probably be a bunch dropped or banged against rider and dragon. And, if a rider was spraying fire over Thread and their dragon had the suddenly go on a wingtip to escape Thread, the flame meant for Thread would probably get their side. And riders have to watch out for their dragons as well, because their dragons can't look everywhere. {Though techinically, dragons warn other dragons when Thread's about to hit them. But I'll bet the riders have a part in that warning others as well.}
