But he told me today that the gist of what he wrote to her had to do with Menolly, the heroine in Dragonsong, saving herself and how that related to the rest of McCafferey's work to eliminate the male-macho hero saving the day. Her first rebellion was Restoree in which a male still saves the day, but not without female help. He wanted to show his approval for all that, and say that he was sorry she wasn't mentioned as a big time feminist writer.

Well SHE wrote back that she was glad she wasn't mentioned, but that she was happy people noticed her efforts and all for that. Most of the Pernese heroines are female (like Lessa, for big example) She also replied within a week and actually apologized for taking so long. She had the flu, or something. She apologized, when he was writing and taking up valuable Pern-writing time. Well at least that's what he said. I never got to see the actual multi-page letter, but I still think it's wicked awesome that she does that sort of thing for people.
