She walks up and pushes the long grass down under her. She had come here to do her work, because while she loved the nearness of water and supplies, the nearness of all the bonded pairs made her sad. She sits down and digs around in her sack, pulling out a spool of brown string and the leather pouch full of shells. She also pulls out a needle, a small wooden board, about 5'' by 5'', and a small wooden mallet. She lays the first shell down on the board and places the needle at the top. She hits it softly and continuosly with the mallet, making a small, thin hole in it. She does this to all the shells over a period of hours and puts them in intricate patterns on strings, making about 8 necklaces.
