Though he tired, Lirth refused to show it. He kept up a stoic pace, continuing to swerve with Jetuth, always no more than a half-length behind now. He could not risk straying too far from his golden queen, monarch of his skies. Now was the time to take advantage of that energy saved. But even with Sh'muel lending his bronze energy, Lirth was still being stretched to the ends of his limits. But for Jetuth. . . there was no giving up. He had come too far.

Lirth began crooning, an ancient song all but forgotten even among the Ancients:
{{ooc apology to J. R. R. Tolkien. There is actually a tune to this, by the way}}

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost.
The old that is strong does not wither,
deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be awoken,
A light from the shadows shall spring...

The melody trilled in his heart, and lifted it a thousandfold. Bolstered by this new source of energy, Lirth flew a hairsbreadth closer to the queen, his eyes, a midnight blue as shadow-filled as the night surrounding them, reflecting the respectful love in his heart. Lirth was aware of the other bronzes, but they only vaguely touched the surface of his consciousness. The only clear figure that stood out against the dark of night was his Jetuth, shining as brightly as the sun, despite there being no actual daylight remaining. In the light of Pern's two moons did he see her, ever rising, slowing perhaps, but never faltering. . .

Lirth climbed with her, following her every exhausted swerve with tired wingbeats of his own. Every facet of his gemstone orbs was fixated on her. A low, deep rumble started in his gut, then slowly poured forth from his jaws, trickling like the incessant babblings of an inconstant brook. This song was older than all things. It had been sung at the inception of all living beings. It was the song of life. Lirth was utterly at a loss as to where the song was coming from. Though he knew it not, the origin of the song was his core, that part of him that linked him with all else, and it was that part that was now trilling the most intricate arias, that was now the rumblings of the lowest drums. . . All were represented there, and all were unpretentious. The song took up Lirth's entire body, until it seemed he was a being of pure light and song.

Sh'muel was no longer even aware that he possessed a human body. He was deeply entwined with Lirth's song, enmeshed in his being, so that he was unsure where he ended and where Lirth began. . . it was perfect that way.

At last, Lirth's consciousness of the real world began to slip back, and he realized he was closer than ever to Jetuth. But no, he must not reach out for her. She must turn to him first. . . it was her choice, and she must be free to make it.
