Bath hour in Norwegian schools

Each saturday was bath day at the school I attended. The boys went down to a separate bath area in the lower part of the buildning. We attended school also on saturdays.

There we had to strip naked and go into a bathroom. We stood in small tubs and had to wash all our body. The uncloading and bath were supervized by an elderly women which apparently only had this as her occupation at the school.

She used to teach us how to wash ourself properly. I do not think this washing procedure was mandatory, but was a relict from former times where not all children had proper opportunities to take abath at home. But we liked it and all attended.

The bath for the girls was at the other end of the building, and boys used to spy on the girls through a half-open winow. The window was inside a fence that we used to climb over.

An experience at a medical spa

As a teenager I has a summer job in a medical spa in Oslo Norway. My job was to prepare the baths that the clients had ordered and to tidy, and do some of the simpler bodily services. The clients used to walk around naked, but with a towel around the hip area that was taken away for the baths and treatments. Most treatments, like massages, comprized the whole body except the genitals.

The area had a central corridor with treatment room at each side, whith the doors mostly open all the time. One room usually had the door closed and was mostly unused.

But one day in an idle moment when I walked along the corridor, the door was open. Has Dragons Ever Existed

Modern scientists are generally laughing about the belief in dragons by people in older time. But if we stydy what properties people actually attributed to dragons, we easily see that the word dragon was used about reptiles that in fact existed in former periods or still exist.

First of all, a dragon has a reptile-like body with a more or less long neck and a long tail. Furthermore the dragon was thought off as a predator with a specific behavior of luring at the pray and then swiftly plunging foreward and caching it. A dragon has a clefted red tongue, and usually has the ability to spit fire. It has shells and usually a comb running along the top of the neck and back. The size can vary from small to very big. In addition a dragon is thought to have wings, usually fairly small however.

You can find reptiles with all these properties, except the ability to spit fire. But reptils have the habit of sticking out the clefted tongue and waving it so it looks like a flame.

A big and dangerous reptile, called the comodo varan, living on islands in south east Asia, has all these properties, but lacks wings.

Another reptile, the so-colled flying dragon or Draco volans, living in south America, also has wings in addition, and can glide from branch to branch of trees. This reptile is small however.

And of cource many extinct reptiles conform to the definition of a dragon, and fairly intact scheletons of these have been found so people new about them, but could not decide if these still were living some place. Usually people thought so, but that thought was not stupid.

About hypnosis and its use in society

By hypnosis the hypnotist induces in a human being or an animal a special mental condition, the hypnotic state. In that condition the hypnotist can controle and manipulate the thoughts, behaviour and mental condition of the hypnotized individual. The hypnotist will then use his controle for specific purposes to the good of the individual under hypnosis, for own good, for the good of some part he cooperates with or possible also just to do harm. Hypnotic techiques are much used by authorities as social tools to controle individuals or greater audiences but most often without being called hypnosis.

The properties of a hypnotic state

A hypnotic state can be strong or weak, both as a whole and regarding specific properties. A classical and strong hypnotic mental state has the following properties:

- All the attention of a person is directed in one specific direction, and at an object, person or voice situated in that direction.

- The individual is able to concentrate intensily upon the object of attention, because all his mental capacity is directed that way.

- The things that the person sees or hears in that specific direction engages the mind of the person so that his attention persists.

- Censorial information about other objects around or things going on in the surroundings is greatly reduced or totally blocked.

- A person in a hypnotic state is physically relaxed and also feels mentally relaxed.

- Information sent out from the point of attention is easily perceived by the hypnotized receiver and is easily recorded in memory, including anything told or any type of order given.

- Critical thinking and logical testing of information is shut off so that anything passed into memory is held as true, and any orders given tend to be obeyed automatically.

How the hypnotist induces the hypnotic state

Methods of hypnotic induction in a person are many, but they have something in common:

- The surroundings are arranged so that there are few elements around that passes complicated or disturbing information.

- The hypnotist shows some object that is easily perceived and seen sharply distinguished from the surroundings. The classical example is a watch hanging in a chain, but it can also be the hand of the hypnotist or a technical device like a TV screen.

- The hypnotist does some simple repetitive action with the object while speaking to the person in a structured way.

- The object, action, voice or speach content is of such a kind that they evoke feelins in the resceiver that keeps him attent. The hypnotist try to use his knowledge about the receiver to chose actions that have that effect.

- After some while the person gets into a hypnotic state with the whole of his attention directed towards the object and the voice of the hypnotist.

- Then the hypnotist ceases his action with the object, but keeps speaking in a structured and predetermined way. Now the voice of the hypnotist is the main point of attention.

- The hypnotis will by now often direct the attetion of the individual at objects or events chosen by the hypnotist by using verbal instructions.

The hypnotic state is usually aborted bythe hypnotist instructing the individual that he is not any longer is under his controle and he will wake up again to a normal mental function. Typically the hypnotist will instruct that so will happen when some event occur, for example that the hypnotist will clap with his hands.

Before aborting the hypnosis, he will however often give an instruction that certain effects of hypnosis will persist. For example that certain instructions given still are in force.

What hypnosis is used to achieve

While the person is in a hypnotic state the hypnotist can use the specific properties of this state for several purposes, both good and mean:

- He can make the recipient feel, taste or hear things, and possibly also see things that are not real and even contraty to what his senses basically register.

- He can make the person even moe relaxed than he allready is in the basic hypnotic state.

- he can instruct the person to do any task. if the task is contrary to the recipients most basic moral codex or his most basic principles, the hypnostist will however often be difficult to make the person obay.

- He can pass true knowledge, or at least knowledge that the hypnotist regard as true, to ease the process of learning for the recipient.

- He can deceive the recipient with false information to gain undue profit, gain power or simply to do harm.

- He can alleviate symptoms of diseases to make the life of a patient easier, especially symptoms that are heavily connected to mental processes.

- He can enhance the motivation for some task in the recipient, for example the motivation for training, lifestyle changes or cessation of smoking or drinking.

- He can possibly stimulate the immune system and healing processes in a patient and thereby contribute to the treatment of a disease.

- He can enforce own leadership of a person or the leadership of someone he cooperates with, both leadership in business or political leadership.

How society uses hypnosis to manipulate individual

Hypnosis has a long history as a therapeutic tool used by psychologists and psychiatrists. The popularity has varied from time to time.
