Michael Dave Barnes - contemplations 1.

I have long wondered why the American common public allow themselves to be fool. Why do common people vote against their own interest? Capitalism through 300 years of development evolved into democracy.

Capitalism has to be understood by comparing it to the system it was trying to escape - feudalism. Feudalism was entirely privilege - based. Owners of land were able to charge rent on land they seized (stole) by force or inherited from someone else who had seized (stole) it by force, or defrauded someone of. The peasantry did all the work, produced all the output and ended up with almost nothing after rent was paid to the lord of the soil.

The French Physiocrats came along and criticized this system and argued that income should be based on merit, not privilege. Income should be aligned with one's contribution. These critics called themselves Moral Philosophers and later economists (capitalists). The idea was to take a social and scientific approach to distribution of wealth. So any economic system that considers people or the social aspect is a socialist system. There were over two-hundred types of socialist systems from Ricardian to Christian to Marxist. Socialism was not seen as evil until elitists launched a propaganda campaign to create "Turkeys that vote for Thanksgiving".

Francois Quesnay the leader of the Physiocrats was a medical doctor who designed the economy around the circulation of the body where production begets consumption by paying high wages to workers so they spend it back into the economy, thereby expanding output and creating jobs ( the focus of true capitalism). Answering the basic and most important of economic questions: Who is producing the output? Who is the income flowing to? How does surplus get spent back into the economy? This allowed workers to keep the fruits of their own labor. That kind of reminds one of 'Social Democracy'.

The system we have today has been inverted in order to create another privilege-based economy centered around ownership, not work or contribution. They have shifted the tax burden off of the wealthy (free lunch) or unearned income (capital gains, rents, dividends [stocks and bonds] and interest) and onto earned income (wages). This was primarily by your friendly neighborhood Republican Party. They are now calling this "capitalism", but it's a actually a Neo-feudalism approach to the economy based on unearned wealth and income. Creating once again a privileged class, or the top one percenters, (top 1% ers).

The socialism aspect of the economy is what built all of our infrastructure and made our country wealthy. When we romanticize about our country we typically think of the period between 1945 and 1979 when we under Keynesian economics which is social democracy - a mixed economy. This period where we had one head of the household bread winner with very little debt and great benefits. This economic system allowed us to grow into the world power we are today. The unbridled greed of the top one-percent, assisted by the Republican Congress threatens to destroy number one place on the world stage. A feeding frenzy is occurring to gather as much loot as possible before what they consider the "ignorant public" catches on.

Neo-liberalism began under Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher in 1979 which inverted capitalism using the trickle-down approach. This approach strips the economy of public wealth, it does not generate wealth. It's extractive only. It imposes austerity on the individual (via low wages) and rewards the parasites at the top, (collecting untaxed dividends, rents and capital gains), with all the riches of avarice.

Capitalism is Social-Democracy. Socialism and capitalism are not mutually exclusive but coexist in every developed nation to a degree. Neo-liberalism (Trickle-down voodoo Reaganomics) is a way of trying to get people to vote against their own interest.
