Kirat had been greeting his half-brother with a hearty clap on the shoulder when a dragonet stumbles into Cynis and knocks the young man into the burning sands. The lean swimmer leaps back, agile despite the shifting terrain, a few grains of sand scraping between the soles of his feet and the light sole of his sandals. A calculating reverence is in his so-dark eyes as Kirat crouches, minimizing himself, and watches Cynis--C'nis, now--Impress the bronze. A fierce grin bares white teeth, stark against his nigh-ebony skin, as he watches his sibling's face change: first eagerness, then a moment's distraction, then shock, disbelief, and finally awe and overwhelming love. Rising springily to his feet once he's sure he won't jeopardize Impression, Kirat gives C'nis a dragonrider's salute with repressed but infinite energy and then turns back to the clutch--only to see a simply massive brown, nearly as big as C'nis' new bronze, leaping across the scorching hot Sands with more vigor than any dragonet he'd yet seen. A second little grin twists Kirat's lips as he watches this dragonet head for the trio of brothers, minus one now, but he knows that such a huge, beautiful, but clumsy beast is not for him. He sidesteps, briefly, dancing on his toes across a few feet of shifting mini-dunes, agile and at ease as he watches the brown pounce his older brother.

And then there is a third hatchling, and Kirat turns his keen eyes to watch this one with as much silent, cunning intensity as the last two. An absolutely breathtaking blue, as beautiful as the previous bronze, teal and wings spread to turn all the sands below him his own color, sunlight shining through the thin membrane. Kirat shrinks into a crouch, an immediate instinct, his mind stalking the progress of this young hunter--ah, he can see the signs in a dragon as much as he can a child--as the blue picks his way calmly across the sands. The hatchling heads straight for him, more or less, and Kirat stands as his heart begins pounding and his breath seems to come short--he stands and accepts his fate, whether it should be rejection or acceptance from this sleek young beast. And suddenly, all the world is teal as he can see only wings and a streamlined, sculpted face that gazes back with scarlet-tinged aquamarine facets.

K'rat! Oveth! A simple statement of two names, permanently bound for all the years of life to come, spoken proudly and triumphantly in a voice that is brand-new and yet very familiar. K'rat finally loses the dregs of his composure, throwing lean arms around the dragonet's arched neck and hugging the egg-sticky hatchling to him. He's grinning madly, eyes squeezed shut as though he could make sense of the chaos of change that had just upheaved all of his self-control and aloofness. Raw joy surges through him, washing against his heart and mind in a crescendo that simply... doesn't... end. Even when Oveth speaks--I'm hungry, K'rat!--the overwhelming, mind-blowing happiness of rebirth does not fade. "Then you'll eat," K'rat whispers, rising from his sandy knees--he'd fallen to them at some point, but he couldn't quite remember when--to lead the beautiful blue to the Bowl.
