Subject: Our lives are better left to chance...
In reply to: Primath, Quaroth, Zairith, Mezeth, Shrineth, and Wessae 's message, "17, 18, 19, and 20. Ah, we get down to it!" on 19:57:29 05/31/05 Tue

((Aww... my only hatchling of the clutch, and it goes to G’ffin! ^_^ Although the name sounds a bit weird... but hey, I gots another blue. And they’re coveted here! ^_____________^ Plus, it’s fun to play on the fact that he’s only what, 14?))

Griffin was watching with wide eyes as the eggs continued to hatch. Wow... dragons sure seemed strong. He watched fearfully as a green fell on top of one of the female candidates—True, or something—but was happy to see the green croon to an all right woman. So she’d Impressed? That was good...
However, as the next egg hatched, he watched the blue features of a young dragonet break free of a shell—though not completely. Griffin was surprised to see that the youngling’s tail and wingtips still had shards of his shell attached. The lucky candidate may have to point that out...
And then the blue was heading toward him.
As the dragon neared, Griffin seemed a bit taken aback; he wanted someone over here? What if he was in the way? However, when the strange fledgling skidded up to him, all these thoughts were lost in the playful voice.
G'ffin! I am Mezeth! Feeding would be a good idea. The dragonling gave Griffin—or, G’ffin—the distinct impression that he was grinning at him. The boy looked at him, eyes wide behind his sister’s glasses.
“Me...Mezeth?”
Yes! The dragon replied happily. I am Mezeth, and we must eat now before I die with hunger.
G’ffin was completely surprised. Gently, he stretched out his hand, and the dragon shoved his muzzle gently into it. G’ffin caressed the side of the wedge-shaped head carefully. He was only a child, and yet he knew a love greater than most men. How could this be?
G’ffin, you are a Rider. Not a child. You may be young, but a few years of training will fix that! Do not worry.
G’ffin shook his head, and allowed himself to start his walk off the sands when he heard a shriek behind him.
“Grif!”
Of course, Lamia’s accompanied the small, childish voice of his 2-turn-old sister. “Griffin—I mean G’ffin!”
G’ffin turned around to see three figures, two running up to him. One of them, a tall girl with wind-swept black hair and pale skin, ran up and collided with her younger brother in a monstrous hug. “G’ffin!” She said, as if she couldn’t believe that was really his name. “Oh, G’ffin, I’m so proud of you...” She let go suddenly, as if aware she might be embarrassing him in front of his new dragon.
“G’ff?” Phoenix asked, eyes wide as she watched the dragonling and her brother.
“Yeah.” G’ffin said, smiling at his little sister. “I’m G’ffin now.”
“Congratulations.” Said the third one, greenrider S’non. “What’s his name?”
“Mezeth.” G’ffin said not only to his uncle, a touch of pride in his voice.
“Mezeth.” S’non repeated, nodding. “You should be proud. Blues are getting scares around here.” There was a touch of unease in his voice.
“Is everything alright?” G’ffin asked, frowning. What was there for him to worry about?
“Everything’s fine.” The greenrider said this much too quickly, but no use fixing it now. “However, R’ko and Valor are probably having a bit of a spat.”
“Are they talking again?” G’ffin asked.
Look, this is a great conversation, but I really need you to feed me. Now.
G’ffin nodded. “I need to feed him. Maybe we’ll talk later?”
“You know it.” Mia said, smiling.
So G’ffin started to walk off, Mezeth right beside him.
Good. I thought you would talk forever.
“Would I let my best friend starve?”
I’d hope not. You did impress me.
“I may be a child, but I’m not stupid.”
Which is why you’ll make a good life mate, small one.
“Thanks.”
