Tathan jumped visibly at the brown�s words � this new voice was deeper than the other one he had heard�and now the green dragon was speaking to him again! What was it with these dragons? She said she wanted to be his friend�the boy shivered. �We�re friends, aren�t we, boy?� No. He wouldn�t let her. He wouldn�t let her get close enough to do anything to him. Disregard the fact that a dragon would never hurt a human (Tath didn�t know anything about dragons, did he?) and you can see why Tathan would be scared. The word wasn�t one that he trusted, and this enormous animal with teeth as long as his arm was actually talking to him, trying to get him to trust her.

�Get out of my head,� he whispered � since that seemed to have worked for her to hear him before. But he knew it was useless. She didn�t have to leave, did she? He was only a drudge, nobody would believe him if he said that he had heard a voice in his head coming from the dragon he had seen on the Hatching Sands. She could do whatever she wanted � why should she have to acquiesce to a question asked by Tathan? Exactly. She didn�t. And now, my friends, you see the damage that can be caused by not instructing children properly about dragons. Anyone sees me, they�ll think�m talking to m�self� Ah well. At least, if someone saw him, they might start talking to him so that the dragon couldn�t any more. Aware that he hadn�t been appropriately respectful with his request, he added: �Please?� in a tiny voice, shivering still, and doing his best to hide behind his rake.
