Having asked for directions from a helpful brownrider, L'andro and Sanoth reach the Perches much more quickly than they had the found the hatchling's meal. Once there, however, the boy quickly realizes that he has no idea how to scrub a dragon. "Get into the lake, and I'll figure it out," he suggests, and Sanoth bobs his head and obeys the soft-voiced instructions. While he splashes quietly about, L'andro locates the long-handled wire brushes and peers at them in confusion.

"There's soapsand in the lake, and you use that to scrub it in," a someone says from behind him.

L'andro turns to see a dark young man, obviously an older and experienced dragonrider (a bluerider, by his shoulder knots), smiling up at him. The boy flashes the man a grin. "Thank you."

"No problem. You're not the first one I've seen tonight," the bluerider assures him, and then turns and walks off. It's not until he's gone that L'andro realizes he hadn't asked the man's name.

Well, I'll see him again, he thinks optimistically, and plunges into the lake to scrub his little brown hatchling down.
