Subject: So…Smoking by Denise…

It popped into my mind yesterday evening (for me, timezones yo.), and I realized with 2026 on the way, it would be the 25th Anniversary of SbD.

Time for an update?

There are probably still a few typos to correct, and it could probably do with more images to go with parts of the text.

When I released the 21st AE in 2021, I said I'd taken it as far as I could. And at the time, that was the truth as I saw it.

Has anyone read it, and found it lacking in some respects?

So, more images, yes. Though I could take the easy route and use AI-generated stuff, I'd rather not.

There are probably a few sections where Denise or myself fell short, stuff Denise didn't know, or failed to include, and the same for me. New information, old information.

The original site was intended as a reference, and my updates and additions continued it on in that theme, to cover all aspects of Tobacco smoking. But as time has moved on, SbD has not, and there is always room for further improvement.

There is one thing that SbD has in abundance, and that is waffle, stuff that doesn't need to be there, I mean, the list of cigarette brands in SbD is very outdated, the travel guide, same. And my breakdown of the contents of a cigarette could probably be done away with.

I've read that SbD was considered by some to be a literal Bible for smokers back in the day, so I'm considering the creating a parallel version, a more concise version, the essence of what Denise had in mind for her original work. Something with essential information, without too much stuff to get in the way of what should be a learning process. And if it's one thing the community (and the Library) lacks, it's an adequate manual for those who may want to try or start smoking, and for existing smokers to up their game. The Library already has several historical works on the subject, but most are fetish-centric, or are fantastical attempts to get new smokers addicted as quickly as possible. I've always advocated for a more measured approach, a more organic one. And with smoking rates in decline, it's something that is needed now. There is still time to change things for the better.

I'm happy to take advice on this, as long as it is honest and unselfish.

Nick

Post Scriptum: I've actually managed to write and complete a story. It's horror-themed, and probably would have been better in the volume that dropped on Halloween. It was inspired by several creepypastas I've been listening to. And I needed a break from my epic space-opera. I guess inspiration struck at just the right time. It has holes, and hooks for a potential sequel, but I don't know where to go with it, or even if I should. I had an idea, and wanted to explore it. I haven't added it to Volume 141 yet, not quite done with it, but I should be happy with it by the time 141 drops. We'll see.
