It must have been you I got it from.

Should have made a note of that, didn't.

My apologies.

I wonder, since the Kindle files likely have some sort of DRM protection, could they still be transcribed by running the screenshots through OCR software, correcting any errors as it goes?

There are of course Copyright issues. I recall I have maybe four or so files I'd like to be able to add to the library, but I don't think I can because it would be in breach.

Never really thought much about using Amazon to publish, people like to think they can put their work on there and make a few dollarydoos, but SF fiction is pretty niche, and since I've learned how dishonest Amazon is when it comes to eBook revenue, I'd discourage people from going that route. It's probably easier (and potentially more profitable) to self-publish. And personally, I think a few SF authors who go through Amazon over-estimate their skill at writing. Can't blame anyone for wanting to make a bit of extra cash though, especially these days.

It is both interesting and a bit concerning that SF fiction is gradually being purged. It's either ideological, or because that type of fiction makes so little money, it's simply not worth hosting.

Well, my Library is still here. All…2.54GB. And we're not that far off 800 files. I think we're about 30-odd shy of that milestone. Hopefully will hit that in the next couple of years.

Would be nice if some of the authors whose work has been purged would submit their work to the Library, just so it won't vanish completely. I reckon I do a pretty decent job with stuff I release. It's at least on par with an eBook.

Plus I think it would be eye-opening for folks here and elsewhere to know how authors were treated by publishers like Amazon. Because from what I've heard, anecdotally, it's not all sunshine and unicorns.

Nick
