And so, my Christmas present.

I can't imagine anyone else got you evidence of just how important you are or were, this year, in such an abstract way. I hope so, anyway. Like 100 letters, this is a demonstration--has been one--of what effect you have on the world. Six months, half a year, of reminders that to at least one person (and likely to many, many) you are a milestone or lodestone or touchstone of value in an otherwise constantly moving life half a world away, years removed.

And been so for a long time. A long time without ever doing anything about it. An unasked for appreciation.

I am surely not alone in this.

You, Miss Maggie, made all the difference in the world for me. And even now, matter deeply. Of all of God's creatures (forgive me the poetry of that) and for no other... none... I would rouse myself from quiet consideration and show the softer, inner parts of me. And only because if I thought anyone deserved to know they /mattered/ and /matter/ and /will matter/ it is you.

Merry Christmas. Be well. Be very well. And, if it is in you to do so, take all of this as it was intended. A sweetness, a long-willed thoughtfulness, a half-a-year of openness, meant to be the only gift I think worth giving...

A reminder that you shine.
