I have a cousin named Ted. When I was growing up, back in the 50s/60s, he had hanging on the back the door leading form their kitchen down to the basement a paddle that read "For my little Teddy bare". Needless to say he was embarrassed every time someone knew saw it.

I saw it used on him in his kitchen quite a few times often with his sisters also watching. I had it used on me several times as well with similar audiences. In all instances, it was employed as advertised.
