In reply to: MO 's message, "For a group which at one time had some of the biggest numbers and amazing talent, I think dancers know that when the competition gets watered down after many retire, the excitement is gone." on 12:44:00 07/01/24 Mon

... this year at Nationals.

Age group is def starting to shrink as dancers advance deeper into college, but there's still an unusually large group of WQ & NQ level girls competing, especially among the Chicago, Milwaukee, Twin City, St. Louis and Indy schools, where it's easier to continue training with your original school if you decide to stay closer for college.

IMO, that 2004-birth year group is one of the last of the huge, everyone-is-good groups before ID started to really shrink during Covid. During their u14 PW year, the larger feis weekends often had 30+ u14 dancers fighting to get into PC to qualify for Oireachtas. That same PW age group today is down to 5-6/feis.

I think that's one of the reasons so many u20's are still dancing - covid killed their u15-16 competition years, so there were a lot of really good dancers who didn't get a chance to move into OC and become eligible for Nationals until u-16 / u17, when things started to open up again.
