He's known Dorie for so long and at an event like this, where Sheryl might be busy with backstage matters, that he would have her there. I know if I have to be with a large crowd of strangers, it's wonderful to be with someone I'm close to to chat with. Plus it's likely she'd know Rodney too. Over the years it's clear there are many a good and determined detective out there who seem to know stuff. I don't drink and know things, so I like the odd bit of gossip. It's nice that he's loyal to his group. Although, it's true that you could be correct too.
