Next time you’re down at your local Toys ‘R’ Us, spare a thought for the collection of N’Sync and Britney dolls. Somewhere in between your brand new, chainsaw wielding Eminem figurine and your stoner S Club 7 boys, there’s clearly a gap in the market for a band that would heckle all the other dolls off the shelves. A band that you would imagine were packaged in their box not only with miniature instruments but also armed with a packet of cigarettes and a repertoire of impressive one-liners. Well, sparking devotion amongst those in the know, seems to be I Am Kloot’s secret weapon, and those Matell figures may not be such a bad idea, if we’re to believe singer Johnny Bramwell’s version of events.

“We were actually formed by a record company. They thought it was the best thing that could happen.” He deadpans. “There were thousands and thousands of people that auditioned for this band. We were promised our own TV programme and cartoons. But really, its much better if you think of us as some kind of simple automaton.”

“They said that we were really lucky to make it through the auditions,” adds drummer Andy Hargreaves, clearly utilising those mandatory press conference skills.

“ I mean, we’ve all done it before,” Johnny continues, “I got down to the quarter finals of being the lead in ‘Cats’, but apparently I didn’t have the right kind of ‘Meow’
