Subject: Saint huggers?

I am frankly discouraged when I see folks leave a game early as in a deliberate effort to show their disdain. And the FEW morons having mastered the ability to boo are in the same category as the nit wits sporting the "fire Lanier and Priceless signs" so clearly observed on ESPN during the MAAAC final last season. Cheap little people.

These Bozo's probably amount to 2% of the fans ever showing up at the Pepsi to watch Siena basketball. This 2% would be a huge addition to the attendance of any one Iona game. So Iona, when you actually have a fan base, you to will find a few "rotten apples in the barrel." In the meantime enjoy your high school atmosphere.

Having said the above, that does not mean a fan base cannot be discouraged and feel cheated. The notion, support that team above all,in victory and defeat, went out of fashion when "father knows best" went off the air. A team must earn fan respect.

Earning fan respect does not mean never losing a game and Siena DOES NOT have fair weather fans. Losing is part of the formula for college hoops.

However, lack of effort and desire to win is unacceptable. When the "Beyer Rat Nest" evolved with all it's little social ills the fan base diffused away as the "well poisoned". Team effort and desire declined and concluded with that terrible thrashing by Canisius I believe.

There is no reason to believe any "Beyer like situation" exists at this time but clearly...team attitude and coaching ineffectiveness has surfaced. Siena fans cannot "cheer" a team out of this mess. This club needs to reflect and revisit the mission.

Our job is to show up, pay the price of admiision and be there to support and enjoy. That teams job is too get their collective act together and make an effort, day in and day out! Forget the fact they are kids and students. It's their job right now and they need to get it done.

With an all around effort the fans will show their affection win or lose and the few Bozo's in the mix will just have to quiet down a bit.
