Subject: Fairfield. Also, Jasper-Rider game last night

Hope Coach has a good game plan against Fairfield. IMO, they are playing the best in the MAAC right now.

I saw Manhattan play Rider last night, so I'm comparing how Manhattan and FF played against the same team. Though Manhattan made Broncs look bad, Fairfield put on a defensive clinic, both inside with the shot blocker, and more importantly, defensively with thier guards. Still, FF has a way of letting the other team back in at the end. Not sure why that is. The final margin of the Rider game (7 pts) was not an indicator of how much FF outplayed Rider.

Fairfield's offense has its fits and starts (sort of reminds me of Siena's at times), but FFs defensive is clearly the best in the MAAC right now. My main concern is the defensive pressure FF can bring. Our guards have to be "ON", and Haddix and Brent are going to see every shot come back unless we get some good interior passing to get the shot blocker off his timing.

But Lanier beat FF last year by 20 in the tourney and this FF team is very similar to last years, so there is hope.

Last night, Jaspers pressed Rider and forced them into 18 turnovers. Jaspers were not as good or as motivated as when they hosted Siena the week before, but it was good enough to win. Johnson had 30 points, but 85% of what he did was forced. Robert Taylor is looking shaky at PG, he can't dribble left with any authority either (neither can J. Johnson) and teams have caught on to that and are taking advantage. Flores at times last night looked like he was taking a break in place during parts of the game. One stat that won't be in the box score is that Flores wore down Johnson to the point that he had to take himself out of the game. That's when Jaspers scored 13 unanswered points in the 2nd half to take control

The press in Trenton has bought into this "we're getting beat but we're a good team" theory that Harnum is spouting. It's almost comical. One headline today reads "Rider impressive in defeat".
