Subject: Forum Archives

I'm in the process of cleaning up the older archives on this forum in preparation for a move off-site, since Voy only allows the storage of 10 archives. (With good reason, I might add - the downloaded archives so far took nearly 13MB of space before I started cleaning up the HTML code! They're now down under 7MB, mostly due to the removal of the HTML code for the ads and message-reply forms.)

I'd like suggestions from people about what should/shouldn't be included in the cleaned-up archives. For example, should I bother including messages that are simply "Thanks" or "It works now?" What sort of spam protection do y'all prefer for your e-mail addresses? I use a hexadecimal encoder now, which seems to do a pretty darn good job while maintaining usability.

Obviously, the ability to respond to archived threads will be lost, but then again, I really don't think people need to be dredging up year-old threads anyway :)

The biggest thing I'm worried about is losing search capability, since there are *so many* pages that there's no way I can have PicoSearch index them all without paying money. (The cap is 1500, and I think the current Archives 1-7 have about 2000 messages, each on its own page.) If anyone has suggestions for how to overcome this, or suggestions as to what's important to search and what isn't, let me know.

Oh, and if anyone is intimately familiar with GREP-based find-and-replace in BBEdit, get a hold of me immediately. :)
