The CCSCC *explicitly* and *very clearly* states that commercial use of their work is PROHIBITED. Despite the above, Maxus and MicroMac somehow manage to get away with performing commercial mods.
As far as Taco goes, well, Alexey makes a good point - it's really just re-engineering the case, nothing more.
The thing that really annoys me is that until I clarified the details of the VGA mod, *nobody* - least of all that smithfamily1 guy - was particularly clear on what the heck was going on. Then this guy jumps out of the woodwork and starts mass-producing them for sale on eBay. Because of information he got from *me*. Without *ever* interacting directly with *anyone* on this forum.
My main intention is to prevent him from doing anything *else* like that, because I don't think he'll be willing to part with half his profits in exchange for the information. It's not that I particularly object to people having the information; it's that I object to people like him doing what basically amounts to *stealing* my work, and destroying *my* market for such items, should I choose to produce them en masse.
As far as protecting the design, I don't see any problems with 1) patents and 2) copyrights. I *will* patent my VGA mod if I need to. And the terms of the patent will be that it is free for noncommercial use. Based on what little I know of patent law, I don't think it would be *too* difficult to get a patent on the concept/execution.
