Subject: Mystic 64MB SIMMS found; $89.00 or $19.95

After many tries, I finally got a 64MB SIMMS to work in my Mystic. That is the good news. The bad news is that it cost me $89.00! Yikes!!! But I have found another source that *might* work, and it is only $19.95....

I picked up a 64MB, 72 Pin, EDO-A, 60ns, non-parity SIMMS at Memory Time here in Portland Oregon. It's Memory Time's part number 64M72E60NX. It is EDO-A, with a 4K refresh rate, single banked, 8 chip SIMMS. The SIMMs is made by Smart Modular Technologies. The Smart part number is: SM1632E60. Maybe some Memory Detective can find this SIMMS for a better price than I did. Lucky me; I got the Smart part number! Hehehehehe....

Memory Time will do mail order. In the US it is $6.00. You can contact Victoria at Memory Time and tell her you are looking for the Mac 64MB SIMMS that Jack Honeycutt bought. Victoria's email address is: info@memorytime.com Memory Time will let you return it if it will not work. While the $89.00 did sting, I can't tell you how *COOL* it is to see that much RAM in my Mystic. It has been a long time coming....

Also worth checking is a USA mail order business called Velocity Upgrades (http://www.velocityupgrades.com). They have two 64MB 72 pin SIMMS that *may* work and they are only $19.95 each. They are:

1) 64MB-FPM/1Bank, Part # 85N1632FB62
2) 64MB-EDO/1Bank, Part # 85N1632FE62

(Chris; do you anything about the two SIMMS listed above?)
If one of the two will work, that is quite a savings. I could not find shipping prices on Velocity's web page.

One last note on the Smart SIMMS......

While it fits fine in the CC case with plenty of head room, you can't lock it into place in the SIMMS socket and slide the logic card in. The SIMMS is just a whisker too tall to fit past the screw hole in the back of the case. You need to lay the SIMMS in the socket, with the SIMMS at a slant. Then slide the logic card into the CC. Then, with the card in place, reach in with your finger and snap the SIMMS up to the upright position.

Removing the logic card is a bit more tricky. You need to reach into the logic card with something (I used a pencil) and un hook the far end SIMMS clip, while with your other finger un hook the front one. Then let the SIMMS lay on a slant, and slide the logic card out. To tell you the truth, it is a big pain in the ass. But I am getting better at it.

It sure is great to have 64MBs in my Mystic!!!
