Subject: Re: additional Gossamer A/V board information

Just received my A/V card for gossamer. Apparently it's not the one used in AIO. Having done some investigations - there were three different A/V cards produced (and plus three different revisions of Audio only cards).

1) "Wings" A/V card - the one I have - looks pretty much the same as in Apple TIL article I mentioned before in this thread. This one has modem slot + DAV connector + IR connector + TV tuner connector. Apparently apple's software supports only 320x240 capturing and TV displaying for this card - but I guess it's limited by software - because Philips chipset used to digitise video signal supports 800x600 as maximum.

2) A/V + DVD card - different chipset (not Philips) + ATI chip for hardware DVD acceleration (see here http://www2.sunrem.com/sun02.w?pt=661-2071&catcode=15140). This card does not have any connectors apart from the modem slot. Apple video capturing software supports resolutions up to 720x576 (NTSC DVD resolution) but again I guess that this is pretty much software imposed limitation

3) A/V card rev.III (see here http://www2.sunrem.com/sun02.w?pt=661-2111&catcode=15140). This card has modem slot + DAV connector + internal connector (guessing from Al pictures it's used to connect the control and sound board in front part of AIO). I don't have any information about chipset used and capabilities of this card though.

Conclusion is that if you going to use internal AIO connector to connect your CC's monitor then you need either A/V card rev. III or Audio card rev. II (like the one here http://www2.sunrem.com/sun02.w?pt=661-2043&catcode=15100).

Alex
