try removing the 6500's cache dimm. Often times the onboard 3.3v isn't enough for both the dimm and cpu at once, and you'll experience that crashing behavior
PCI cards, by the way, use 5V entirely. There is no relationship between the X500 boards having PCI and needing 3.3v.
