So the initial problem was pincushion distortion.
That suggests that you did the VGA upgrade OK.
However, you've experienced just what I did about 3 months ago; an analogue board that did not have sufficient adjustment on the barrell/pincushion preset to get rid of the distortion.
I didn't find a solution, concluded that some boards are like that, and went instead for the 'logic board' mod - which is a right little b****r to do with those surface mount resistors that float away on the solder!
