The problem with CRTs is that their sharpness (aka focus) isn't linear. You can bring part of the screen in perfect focus, but never the whole thing. Concentrate on making the focus as good as possible for the parts of the screen that will be used the most - generally the menu bar (and other edges of the screen). If you need to compromise the focus in those areas to make the centre more readable, there's a bit of room for error as the text in the menu bar tends to be easier to read (even if it's not perfectly focused) than text in the centre of the screen.

I'm pretty sure the focus adjustment itself is on the side of the a/b near the brightness adjustment, between the front of the CRT and the halfway mark. I don't have any of my CCs right here but I'm pretty sure that's it.
