As far as reading material, I can't think of anything specific other than the links here. Practising your soldering skills on a dead circuit board would probably be useful.

The colour problem is likely due to cold solder joints or failing components on the analogue board. Cold solder joints are pretty hard to discern unless you have experience, and failing components can be nearly impossible to isolate without lots of test equipment. I wouldn't worry about it until it actually becomes a problem or until you gain enough know-how to be comfortable re-soldering the joints on the board. (Larry Pina's Mac Repair and Upgrade Secrets and The Dead Mac Scrolls are great books for outlining component-level repair, but they're hard to find and even with them, you'll want to practise first.)
