Based on my own experience with my PCC, I would say your problem is being caused by a problem with the push button board. Does the power light on the front of the CC and do the brightness buttons work? If not, the PB board could be unplugged, missing, or wired improperly. I just tested my machine with no PB board installed, and I have no sound out at all.
