My boy didn’t feel the switch that often on his bare backside but there were times on a hot Summer day when a freshly cut switch was most effective.

This day my Son was off from Summer break but he still had chores around the house and yard and he clearly knew his responsibilities because he was also paid an allowance for timely completing the chores. I came home from my work to find that the yard was not tidy and the grass not mowed but my boy was shooting baskets in our driveway.

I asked him if his chores were completed and he said he would get to them and I then reminded that chores come before play and go that I was delivered a sassy tone and again said he would get to it soon. The late afternoon was hot and humid and I went inside to change clothes and also to inform his Momma about her son’s sass and the whoopin he was soon to feel. I went out back to the row of peach trees and cut a fine branch and walked back to the porch and commenced to remove the side branches and clean it up.

With the switch now in good form I walked back to my Son still shooting baskets and to him to put down the ball and that we were talking a walk to the shed. His attitude quickly changed as he saw what I was holding and the earlier sass was replaced with apologizes and a pledge to mow the grass right now. I said there would be time for mowing after his whoopin and my next words were “Young Man! MARCH!!!!!” Unfollowed my Son into the backyard and to the shed door and given the heat of the day, the open door remained open. I sat down on the metal stool and with my boy standing in front of me I proceeded with a stern lecture and upon its conclusion I stood up and told my Son to “Bare your backside!” In short order his shorts were unbuttoned and he pushed both shorts and underwear down in one motion and he was instructed “Young man, palms down on the chair seat and bend over!” With tears forming and without fight he did as told and his bare backside presented as the first strike came quickly and strongly.

His bare backside was struck 25 times and showed the clear effects of a young peach tree branch but the lesson was learned as tears flowed. And after an uncomfortable sitting for the evening meal, he was outside mowing the grass before the sunset.
