Subject: Miserable in Germany

Hello all friends back at Fort Hood. I am here in Germany and hating it bad. I am depressed because my husband is in Kosovo, we have no car because we had to leave ours due to mechanical problems and the military spouses here show no support whatsoever. They expect for you to walk in the bad weather with your baby, waste money on a cab or stand in the bad weather with your baby to wait for the shuttle bus. When we first got here we had no sponsor so my husband had to make due on his own. A month after we moved here he had to leave for Kosovo and we did not even had our household goods yet. He was trying to look for a used car, but with in processing and training for Kosovo he had little time to look for a car. Moving here has been a burden on us financially and emotionally. We have bills that need to be caught up and a car in TX to be fixed so we can have our friend drive it to our family in another state. Thank GOD we had someone we trust to leave our car with at the last minute since the military does not want to pay to ship it stateside but are quick to send it overseas. I miss the luxary of being stateside. I miss my friends and family and the military spouses at Fort Hood who seem to be more caring and considerate of the new spouses who move to a new area. Here the wives expect for you to manage on your own which is impossible in a foreign country. I am stressing out here everyday because I miss being able to get into my car and just go and take care of my errands. Here all I do is worry about how I am suppose to get on post to pay bills here and in the states and how I am going to do my shopping. I have a small baby to take care of and I hate dragging her out in the bad weather without a car. In the states I had no problems because we have a car there and when it did break and was in the shop, the dealer would help us out and my husband's old unit would help out getting him to and from work. Unlike here on the day he left for Kosovo, he was going to walk to the two plus miles to post with 2 duffle bags and a ruck sack full of stuff and he never made it out the door. He called staff duty and they told him to take a cab. Now what kind of unit support is that? We stayed at the hotel for three days when we got here and they told him to take a cab to work and he barely knew his way around. But he found someone from the company to take us to our housing. The morale and welfare here is bad. No one seems to care how you make it. In the states I can expect it but here is a shocker. In the states it is a little easier to make due because you are in your own country but when you come to another country you do expect for people to be more helpful. Now the Germans are nice and I have no problem with them or their culture. I just have a problem with the military people who are stubborn and selfish and do not want to help a new person out. We have been here since Jan 2001 and we are ready to go back to the states, even if it means coming back to Fort Hood. We wanted a change but not this kind of change.
